Young people will have the opportunity to be part of a community of children who are all there for the same reason! To SING!

OCCC sings a variety of music and is often asked to be guest singers in other adult choirs concerts! We sing pop, showtunes, classical, Canadian folk, jazz, and even sometimes creations written by our own singers! We help build singers who understand commitment, confidence and freedom to still be themselves!

Being part of a choir has numerous mental, physical and emotional benefits for children and adults alike. Study after study has proven the strong benefits of being in a choir!

After six years of heartfelt leadership under founding director Julia Johnston, the Orillia Community Children’s Choir is stepping into a bright new chapter with the appointment of Jeanette Martin as its new Director this fall.

Jeanette is a vibrant and experienced educator who brings with her more than 40 years of teaching and choral directing. A graduate of Queen’s University, she is certified through the Royal Conservatory of Music in Advanced Piano, Voice, Theory, Speech Arts & Drama, and Flute. Her teaching career has spanned both elementary and high school classrooms, and her choirs have performed on prestigious stages — including a recent performance at Carnegie Hall in New York. She’s already planning a return to the Big Apple: in April 2026, Jeanette hopes to bring choir members to sing selections from WICKED at Lincoln Centre alongside Broadway stars.

Starting in September, Jeanette will lead rehearsals on Monday evenings from 5:00–6:30 PM at the Orillia Music Centre, and is looking forward to welcoming both returning choristers and new faces with open arms — and plenty of laughter.

Julia Johnston, who founded the choir with a vision of joyful musical excellence and community connection, reflected on the transition:

“It has been one of the great honours of my life to develop and guide this choir — to witness the courage, artistry, and friendships that have blossomed in each singer. This community has built something truly beautiful. As I step aside, I do so with deep confidence that Jeanette will bring her own brand of enthusiasm, creativity, and fun. She has so much to offer, and I’m excited to see the choir grow under her care.”

The Orillia Community Children’s Choir continues to offer young singers a space to build skills, make music together, and share something meaningful with their community.
