Ages 7 -17
Young people will have the opportunity to be part of a community of children who are all there for the same reason! To SING!
OCCC sings music from a number of styles (pop, showtunes, classical, Canadian, Jazz) all in an effort to help them become confident and independent young singers.
Being part of a choir has numerous mental, physical and emotional benefits for children and adults alike. Study after study has proven the strong benefits of being in a choir.
Rehearsals this year in two sessions, on Mondays:
@ 5:30pm-6:30pm
Location: Orillia Music Centre @ 62 Peter Street North
*please note that this rehearsal time/day may change-final day and time will be given during auditions in August*
$165/child/session -new registrations
$155/child/session -returning singers
Cash or cheque (made out to Express Yourself performing Arts)
We apologize but no refunds are being offered. We are a small community-based group. Instead, we offer a chance for your child to come for the FIRST rehearsal of choir for FREE. Just to make sure they enjoy the experience.
Auditions will be in late August, we will NOT be accepting singers partially through the year for our 2023-2024 session.
Results from these auditions, will be members of two choirs next year. One performance choir, another training choir. Both are exceedingly important, and both choirs will sing in the final concert.
*Please note, if you are part of the performance choir (13-17 years old), you must participate in the training choir (7-13).

Our Director
Julia Johnston

Julia is a singer, performer and music theatre loving, individual. Trained at Randolph College for the Performing Arts she is known as a "triple threat performer". She loves to share her knowledge with children who strive to improve their confidence levels onstage and offstage. Julia is a professional singer and has sung in churches, concert halls and her personal favourite, around a campfire. She runs three women’s choirs "SING-IT!" through Express Yourself in Orillia, Barrie and Midland, and has taught children and adults both in group lessons and privately for almost 10+ years.
Julia has sung under the baton of many great music directors including Dr. Canon Giles Bryant, Syd Birrell, Christine Slevan, Jeffrey Huard, Jeannie Wyse, Mitchell Pady and Blair Bailey. Her performing arts school in Orillia, "Express Yourself", has been a constant fulfillment of encouragement that the arts community is important to the Orillia and surrounding communities, and worth fighting for. If you recognize Julia, it may be because you saw St Paul's Centre's 2019 production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, of which Julia played one of the lead roles as Narrator. It brings her joy to give a boost to the art's community by putting a children's choir together. Julia is thrilled to share her knowledge of choral singing and music with the Orillia Community Children's Choir.
